Hope In The Midst Of Crisis

March 24th, 2020 Rev. Peter Narinesingh & Rev. Ruby Ollivera

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Pslam 46:1-2 KJV

Even though the earth is in peril and the nations of this world tremble with the pandemic and uncertainties, our declaration should be, "I will NOT fear because my God loves me and He is my refuge & strength. He has proven to be a present help when I'm in trouble so all shall be well."

God's Word gives us the approach that we should adopt when facing any battle or distress. We live in a day of trouble and global crisis but God's Word gives hope and encouragement which keeps us from panic and fearfulness. So, what should our attitudes be in the midst of trouble?

1. Tell God about it.
Hebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

We have access to the throne of grace because of what Jesus did on the cross for us. This gives us the confidence to draw near to God and present our needs to Him through prayer. We all have needs at this time for our family, our country and the whole world. We can take comfort in the assurance that God hears when we pray to Him and He is willing to supply all of our needs. Remember to draw near to God in prayer and His Word now more than ever.

2. Remember that He cares
Follow the explain of King David. He was confident that when He prayed, the Lord will save him. David made it his duty to cry to God throughout his day, morning and evening, knowing in his spirit that God will hear his voice. He knew, without doubt, that it was God who kept and sustained him through every downfall. Therefore, just like King David be confident in the promises of God to you. Remember that God cares for you and he's interested in even the smallest aspect of your life.

Psalm 55:16-17, 22
Vs 16 - As for me, I will call upon God; and the Lord shall save me.
Vs 17 - Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.
Vs 22 - Cast thy burden upon the Lord , and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

3. Trust & rest in God alone.
Matthew 11:28
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

We don't have to be fearful or anxious about life or the Covid-19 crisis. We should be wise and follow all necessary precautions but we must not fear. Be encouraged that we can trust God to provide his unfathomable peace and His perfect rest. Know that His peace will guard our hearts and mind through Christ Jesus especially when we have that tendency to give in to fear and panic.
4. Prepare to fight
Ephesians 6:10-11
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Be prepared to stand up spiritual for your home, your family, this nation and the world. We have weapons to use for this warfare; not physical or biological weapons, but the Word of God, the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We can bind and cast the spirit behind this Coronavirus out of our nations & enforce the kingdom of God in our homes in the name of Jesus. Do not let the enemy make you think that you are without power.

5. Do not give in to fear.
Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Listen to God & believe His Word. Regardless of what you are facing whether it is joblessness, financial constraints, fear, loneliness in isolation or uncertainty about the future, God says not to fear. God is still on His throne and He is still sovereign. God still heals, God still provides and protects and He will not forsake His righteous children or see His seed begging for bread (Psalms 37:25). Rebuke the spirit of fear and hopelessness and believe in God's Word.

Trust God to renew your strength and to be truthful to His Word. Look to God and do not fear. You are not facing this crisis alone because God is with you and He will take care of you and provide for you. Remember how He has proven to be a present help in your past & trust Him to provide for you again in the future. You don't have to be fearful, anxious or dismayed. Put your trust in God and take comfort in His Presence & His Word.
